The Loxton Historical Village is a fascinating step back in time, showcasing the development of a typical rural community between 1890 and 1950. With over 45 fully furnished buildings and exhibits, the Village tells the story of the resilience and ingenuity of the pioneers who shaped the region.
Explore historic agricultural machinery, tractors, and vehicles, step inside the original schoolhouse to try cursive writing on the old wooden desks, enjoy traditional games such as hopscotch, marbles, and horseshoe toss. You can visit the general store, the hairdresser, printer, shoe shop, carpentry workshop, and saddlery and experience what it was like to do life before the digital age!
There are beautiful artefacts and period furniture in Doecke’s Cottage, wedding and christening gowns in the museum along with the largest display of hat pins you will have laid eyes on, and even an iron lung!
Each year, the Village hosts two Alive Days when it becomes fully operational with demonstrations that bring history vividly to life. These dates will be updated annually on our website, Facebook, and Instagram pages.
The Village also offers hands-on school programs, venue hire for events and weddings, and a beautiful garden, just perfect for picnic lunches!
Opened in 1973, the Loxton Historical Village proudly celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2023, continuing to preserve and share the stories of our past.
